Easy renovation of critical substrates
If you are laying new tiles or slabs as part of a renovation project, you may often be surprised by difficult substrates that are unexpectedly exposed. If you are dealing with cracked screed, mixed substrates, gaps in flooring or old wooden flooring, it is not always necessary to completely remove the old screed or substrate in order to establish a firm substrate ready for tiling.

Depending on the individual substrate, a special PCI system solution comprising glass fiber reinforcement and fiber-reinforced leveling compound provides a friction-locked bond to the old substrate.

The best cards for any challenge:
  • Cracked Screed
  • Wooden Flooring
  • Old Tiling
CRACKED SCREED

1. Substrate:

Critical substrate, e.g. cracked screed

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

2. Primer:

PCI Gisogrund 404 – Wash primer for absorbent and non-absorbent substrates, apply two coats

3. Reinforcement:

PCI Armiermatte GFM – Reinforcing fiberglass mesh for installation in PCI floor levelers

LEVELING

4. Leveling:

PCI Periplan Extra – Leveling compound for critical substrates under top coverings

LAYING

5. Laying:

PCI Flexmörtel S1 Flott – Flexible flowable adhesive, especially for large-format floor tiles

PCI FT Extra – Polymer-modified tile adhesive for all ceramic tiles

GROUTING

6. Grouting:

PCI Nanofug Premium – Multi-use, flexible joint grout for all tiles and natural stones

7. Joint sealing:

PCI Silcofug E – Elastic silicone sealant, acid-curing

One system – many benefits:
  • No need for time-consuming friction-locked sealing of cracks with reaction resins or removal of old screed
  • Low height, from 5 mm
  • Maximum safety on critical substrates with multi-directional fibers and strong reinforcement
  • Easy use – rapid progress

WOODEN FLOORING

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

1. Substrate/substrate preparation:

Firm, stable wooden substrate

PCI Adaptol – Acrylic joint sealant for sealing joints between boards

or alternatively application of non-sag fairing coat PCI STL 39 and

PCI Gisogrund 404 (diluted 1:1) as make-up fluid for sealing joints

2. Priming:

PCI Gisogrund 404 – Wash primer for absorbent and non-absorbent substrates

3. Reinforcement:

PCI Armiermatte GFM – Reinforcing fiberglass mesh for installation in PCI floor levelers

LEVELING

4. Leveling:

PCI Periplan Extra – Leveling compound for critical substrates under top coverings

LAYING

5. Laying:

PCI Flexmörtel S1 Flott– Flexible flowable adhesive, especially for large-format floor tiles

PCI FT Extra– Polymer-modified tile adhesive for all ceramic tiles

GROUTING

6. Grouting:

PCI Nanofug Premium– Multi-use, flexible joint grout for all tiles and natural stones

7. Joint sealing:

PCI Silcofug E – Elastic silicone sealant, for indoor and outdoor use

One system – many benefits:
  • Maximum safety on critical substrates with optimum bonding and elasticity
  • Low height: ideal for renovation
  • Easy, reliable solution for non-rigid substrates combined with rigid coverings

OLD TILING

1. Substrate:

Firm, stable old tiling

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

2. Primer: PCI Gisogrund 404 – Wash primer for absorbent and non-absorbent substrates

LEVELING

3. Leveling:

PCI Periplan Flow – Leveling compound for use under all top coverings

LAYING

4. Laying:

PCI Flexmörtel S1 Flott – Flexible flowable adhesive, especially for large-format floor tiles

PCI FT Extra – Polymer-modified tile adhesive for all ceramic tiles

GROUTING

5. Grouting:

PCI Nanofug Premium – Multi-use, flexible joint grout for all tiles and natural stones

6. Joint sealing:

PCI Silcofug E – Elastic silicone sealant, for indoor and outdoor use

One system – many benefits:
  • Cost and time savings as old tiling does not need to be removed
  • Short interruptions to use – less dust, dirt and noise
  • Low height: ideal for renovation
  • No leveling of joints – level substrate is created in one step through leveling
