The construction of the new sports and leisure pool "De Vrolijkheid" in the Dutch city of Zwolle is remarkable for two reasons: First, it is one of the most energy-efficient pools of its kind. Second, it is one of the major projects in the Netherlands in which the PCI Augsburg GmbH’s product range was deployed on a grand scale. Thanks to the favourable processing properties of the materials, the flooring and tiling work was completed some weeks earlier than planned. On a net surface area of 4,300 square metres, the centre offers athletes and leisure-seekers a water surface area of 1,600 square metres. To make sure that the sports centre can withstand the permanent humidity on a long-term basis, the contracted tile flooring company Rietmeijer b.v. from Almelo used not only PCI's products but also its technical expertise for the duration of the project. About 20 different products for priming, levelling, waterproofing, bonding, filling and grouting were used for the various challenges. A total of 7,750 square metres of tiles were laid. The 15 contractors appeared quite athletic themselves having completed the work several weeks ahead of schedule. The entire project took a total of six months. Henk Nieuwenhuis, technical specialist and responsible PCI consultant on site is very pleased with how the first major project turned out: "We worked together very well with all parties. We worked out the ideal material assortment in advance with building contractor Pellikaan and made sure our delivery was prompt. Simple processing and quick work progress were important to us. It's not surprising that the work was completed well ahead of schedule". The grand opening of the centre took place in October 2012.
