Team Austria wins the PCI-Alpencup 2024 for the third time
At the fourth PCI-Alpencup, Team Austria with Andreas Landl and Alexander Gfellner once again defended their title and won first place, followed by the teams from Switzerland (second place) and France (third place). This year, the PCI-Alpencup organized in close cooperation with the European Union of National Tile Associations (EUF) took place in Bolzano (South Tyrol). 16 young craftspeople from eight countries competed for the PCI-Alpencup winner's trophy from July 4 to 5, 2024.
At the fourth PCI-Alpencup in Bolzano (South Tyrol), the Austrian team with 18-year-old Andreas Landl from Wartberg and the current tiling world champion Alexander Gfellner (23) from Eschenau defended their title again and took first place for the third time in a row. The Swiss team with Noah Hess and Stefan Stark won silver, Ticiano Mouazan and Roméo Sanchis from France took third place. The German team (Miriam Zellner, Philipp Schlegel) finished in fifth place.

PCI Augsburg GmbH had introduced the PCI-Alpencup 2021 as a new format as part of providing support to young professionals and is organizing it in close cooperation with the European Union of National Tile Associations (EUF). A total of sixteen young craftspeople from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and South Tyrol as well as from Denmark, France, Sweden and the Czech Republic entered the competition on July 4 and 5 and demonstrated their skills over two days. The award ceremony on the evening of July 5 concluded the event. The venue in 2024 was Bolzano (South Tyrol), the event took place in the NOI Techpark, a science and technology park.

As with every PCI-Alpencup competition, each team of two must work together to complete a task based on the level of the World Skills Championships (WorldSkills) or European Skills Championships (EuroSkills) within a specified time frame. This year, the challenging task was to tile a bench with the famous silhouette of the "Three Peaks", a striking mountain range in the Dolomites. The back of the bench was also to be tiled with the respective national flags of the teams.

One participating country takes the lead in setting the task and provides the jury chairman. After Germany (2021), Switzerland (2022) and Denmark (2023), it was Austria this year.

The winners of the past years
  • 2021: Team Germany (Silas Dulle, Tim Necker)
  • 2022: Team Austria (Timo-Nils Theisl, Patrick Hollerer)
  • 2023: Team Austria (Sara Sinhuber, Florian Gruber)
The aim of the PCI-Alpencup is to provide support for young craftspeople as part of the promotion of young professionals, to give them an opportunity of taking part in international cooperation, to exchange views and to measure their performance against each other.

The participants and visitors on site enjoyed an exciting competition and an attractive supporting program with lectures and workshops. At the same time, decentralized training events and workshops for the next generation of tile layers under the motto “Check the tile” will be held at various locations in all of Germany throughout 2024.

"We are pleased that the PCI-Alpencup has successfully established itself and is a fixed date in the annual calendar of professional competitions. As one of our modules to provide support for young professionals, the PCI-Alpencup gives young tradespeople the opportunity of taking part in international cooperation, to exchange views and to measure their performance against each other," summarizes Fabian Ladenburger, Head Marketing Professional Trade Construction & Tile. "The atmosphere was unique and the entire event was very successful once again! We are already looking forward to the next PCI-Alpencup!"
